LEARN THE INTEREST OF NUTS
You can of course listen well to a song, replay it and learn by heart, but after ten songs you often lose how the first song went. That sucks!!! Being able to read and write notes is therefore a super useful tool. You can compare it with the alphabet. Without the knowledge of the letters you cannot read the words and sentences in a book and you are actually illiterate. With the knowledge of the notes you can always read back how to play a song and use the sheets as a reference. A whole world opens up to you because of the enormous amount of study material that offers the opportunity for growth.
Learning notation is very well-organized and fairly easy. No melodic knowledge is needed, only rhythmic knowledge.
THE ADVANTAGE OF A DRUMSHEET
It is possible to find drum sheets or tablature online, but experience has shown that these are not always meticulous or complete. That is why I have made hundreds of drum sheets for myself, but especially for my students. And why should I not share the sheets with drummers who would like this too! My drum sheets are clear, well-arranged and correct.
It’s not for nothing that I make many drum sheets! I know from experience how important the sheets are for my students. I see the benefits every day. Not only is it fun to be able to play a song from A to Z, it is also satisfying and a goal in itself! By playing and reading a drumsheet you learn how songs work. You thereby develop a good sense of form. How long does the chorus, the verse or interlude take. When and where do I play fills and which fills work, and which do not etc etc
You can apply the skills you’ve already learned in a fun and playful way and come up with variations yourself. In short, you learn by playing along and reading a song all kinds of new skills! Because each song itself contains a lot of exercises and variations and it is just a fun and playful way of learning that gives satisfaction.
