Drumming
Since a young age, I have been deeply involved in music. I would often tap and drum on various objects around the house, and when two drums appeared at the after-school care, I couldn’t stay away from them. I then took lessons at the Slagwerkgroep Bovenkerk, where I learned to play a variety of percussion instruments, such as the snare drum, bongos, and marimba. I also learned to read music here. Although I once said I wanted to play in a brass band, I soon realized that one drum wasn’t enough for me – I wanted to play a full drum set! So, I decided to stop my percussion lessons and start drum lessons with Jaap Koning. At that time, Drumschool Logblock was still new, and the lessons took place in Jaap’s house. This was where I first discovered how fun it was to be creative with music and play with a live band during a recital! Playing along with music was something I had never done before, but it turned out to be the most fun and effective way of learning for me. Now, seven years later, I regularly perform with my band ‘Funk It Up!’ and have the honor of being a drum teacher at the now much larger Muziekcentrum Logblock.
I believe that enjoying the learning process, bringing your own ideas into it, and experiencing playing with other musicians are crucial when learning an instrument. Drumschool Logblock is the perfect place for this! Every student has their own unique ideas and is given the freedom to think along and express themselves creatively on the drum set. In my lessons, my students work on reading music, learning the right technique for various rhythms, and playing along with music. We explore many different music genres, including pop, rock, funk, reggae, jazz, and more. Musical exploration, improvisation, and working on technique always result in fun lessons and a strong bond with my students.
I hope to see you soon at Muziekcentrum Logblock, the best music school in Amstelveen and the surrounding area!
Greetings, Jasper
