Iman Spaargaren
Iman is a saxophone & clarinet teacher and workshop leader. He has many years of experience in giving individual and group lessons, including in Amsterdam at the private training institute for Jazz and Light Music DJAM and Expat Music School and in Amstelveen at MuziekCentrum LogBlock .
He has also given various jazz workshops in recent years. Among others: “Movin ‘On Out”, “Eddie Harris” and “Skunk Funk” at Buitenkunst, “Jazz a Paris” and “Un Deux Trois Groovez!” in France, “Monk’s Mind” and ” Snarky Puppy ” at U-Jazz, ” Groove is in the Heart ” at St. JAM Netherlands, “Groove Y’All” in Rotterdam at Jazz International and ” Snarky Puppy 2.0 ” at SpaargarenMusicFabriek.
For years, Iman has been writing fine arrangements for his own workshops and student orchestras. You not only hear them in the rehearsal room, but also live on stage. For example, with On The Roll from Utrecht in 2014 he organized the special collaboration project Big Sound, Strong Voice with On the Roll & pop choir Hold the Line.
At the end of June 2015, he organized the UCK Pop & Jazz Festival at the Utrecht Center for the Arts. And in October of that same year he presented the music theater show “I’m the Man” with On the Roll and amateur theater group Hotel Dolly from Utrecht.
Iman also had lessons. He studied saxophone light music with Ferdinand Povel at the Amsterdam Conservatory. At Codarts in Rotterdam he obtained his masters degree in 2008.
Besides his teaching Iman plays in several bands ( Iman Spaargaren Undercurrent , Voice of Monk , Stark Linnemann Quartet , European Union Quartet , TRUNK ), he has released several CDs (In The Moment, Flow) and he has won the prestigious 2012 Young VIP Tour done .
